Crumby's Wenger 85mm translucent scale collection
It took a great while for the second from the top to show up on EBAY. A great while. Crumby had to search every day for like months after he got sniped on two previous ones. But that's OK. All's well that ends better. Yes, this one's better than those other twain that Crumby got sniped out of. And, it was cheaper.
The reason Crumby collects these is because the scales attach to the liners variously. The bottom one has scales that attach to compression points protruding from the liners, not to the rivets. All the others, the scales attach to the rivets. The middle two have maybe identical rivets for attachment. However. the top middle one retains the old compression points on the scales even though there is nothing on the liners to attach to. The top one is different than all the others because the rivets seem to have collars for the rivets to seat into, just like on Victorinox, and thus require scales with slightly larger rivet holes. The holes may also be comparatively slightly offset.
The approximate dates on these are , top to bottom, 2012-2014, 2007-2012, 2005-2010, early 80s or maybe very late 70s, but the bottom scale/compression point type was used from the late 80s up to 2006 or so and is very common.
There are more scale/rivet types, but these are the only ones Crumby has seen in translucent. Crumby would really like to see a translucent with the original hidden rivet attachments introduced in the 60s and continuing into the 80s maybe?.
