The Atik Focal Reducer - Telescope Tomfoolery
All righty then. Let's just pop this puppy in. What do you see now? Is the ox smaller?
He is Ray, smaller, but I have to get my eye closer and roll it around before I can see all the ox.
You do?
Well apparently I do. Put it back the other way and I'll look again.
All righty then. There tis.
Okie Dokie. This way I see a bigger ox but not quite so much of the ox, and I can hold my eye further from the eyepiece (ep) as well to see what of the ox, I can see. Put it back the other way Ray.
All righty then.
Yepper. I have to put my eye closer to the eyepiece this way and roll my eye ball around to see more parts of this particular ox.
Hmmm. Interesting. Thank ye for assisting me in this experiment Hope. I had, prior to yer assistance come to a similar conclusion, maybe.
We shall anon experiment with the camera attached, for any benefits gained from focal length reduction may be negated by loss of eye relief.
_____
Curious that this particular focal reducer also reduces eye relief. Also, this thing, the Atik focal reducer, can be used in some eyepieces, Lomo plossls fer example, by screwing it in upside down right under the lens. I'm not sure it does anything this way though. Seems like it ought to do something in backwards too, but maybe it don't. Reckon I shall have to take pictures and compare the results of the pictures.
Oh, those new eps we got from Desertscopes.com appear to be of a close kinship with our Lomo 25mm plossl ep. No lens recession and very similar otherwise, same coatings, fer example. I wouldn't mind havin' two of those 25s or maybe a pair of 20s fer the microscope. They are nice, in the microscope.
