Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)

Ray and I, Red has been grubbin' switchgrass in the exclosure this mornin'. That pile of formerly standin' crop switchgrass came from three clumps. The grubbin' hoe is atop one of the three clumps, which is still there, but much shorter now than formerly. As you can see fer yerself, with the garden rake included fer a size reference, switchgrass can produce lotsa biomass in a few growin' seasons. The stems on these were 7' and a little bit.

This here other picture to the east is a little clump of switchgrass, much littler that the three clumps we grubbed. Ye may espy some new stems arisin' and a great many old stems from previous growin' seasons. This is what switchgrass does. Much of the old growth persists fer years and years if it don't get et, er burnt up, er grubbed.

Switchgrass, as some may recall, is one of the kinglet's theoretically prognositicated renewable energy crops. Reckon who give em that spell to read. But more practically, its fair cow feed, and also useful fer the manufacture of Wicker Men.
