Banded Hairstreak Satyrium calanus

I found this one today, dead, on the parlor floor when I was vacuuming. It is new to the CB-BDS. It is also fairly rare in these parts. I have decided to count it.

But how did this little butterfly wind up dead in the parlor? No one noticed it fluttering around inside, prior to its demise. Weird!

Rayetta' Butterflies- The CB-BDS

While it it true that the boys have abandoned this venue in pursuit of other entertainment options, I have decided to keep the CB-BDS here for a while longer. I just decided to day that, this very day. Because, the boys do not have the new venue worked up yet. So I can not go there with the CB-BDS, especially all these documentation pictures.

A few weeks ago my brother, Ray, captured an Arizona sister in a greenhouse. Then, naturally, he brought it home. We photographed it in a tumbler. Then, we let it go.

Today, the first ever wild and free Arizona sister showed up at the CB, maybe. Unlikely it is the same we had in the tumbler. Anyway, it is another record for the CB-BDS.
